With the discontinuation of Association Youth League (AYL) from 2026, Football NSW have introduced the Association Championships. Where previously the AYL ran as a independent competition from division 1, the new championships will complement established division 1 competitions. Players will now play for their local club and have the opportunity to be selected into the Blacktown Association team to compete at the championships. These players will receive additional training opportunities, access to qualified coaches and the opportunity to be exposed to a higher level of football on a regular basis.
In line with the introduction of the Association Championships, the BDSFA is launching the Blacktown Youth Development League (BYDL). This program aims to increase the standard of division 1 football across the association with the benefits then flowing down to other divisions within each club. This program will give division 1 players access to a higher level of training, more games and more opportunities for better football experiences. By improving access to coach education, creating a coaches’ network and providing an abundance of resources, coaches will be upskilled at all participating clubs to offer best outcomes for players. This program will also assist clubs in player retention and moving players into representative levels of football.
Whilst the BYDL is directly beneficial to division 1 teams, the benefits to the clubs extend beyond these teams. Clubs will have access to resources for all teams within their club with the goal to ensure best practice across all teams.
